Chiropractic (Sports and Family)

Chiropractic at Peak Valley Active Health

When people think of chiropractors, they usually think of an adjustment. Chiropractors are fully licensed primary healthcare professionals, requiring a minimum 7 years of post secondary education, trained to fully assess the joints in your body and, diagnose and treat neuromuscoloskeletal conditions. After a full assessment, treatment can include a variety of manual therapies to get you better. This may include spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), soft tissue techniques (ART and instrument assisted techniques), modalities, rehabilitation exercises, and patient education. SMT, or the adjustment, is a controlled and precise movement delivered by the highly trained practitioner to dysfunctional joints with the goal of restoring proper joint motion and enhancing joint function. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics. The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting, but is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
